Project Management Methodolgy

Eon Management Services has adapted a combined approach between the MSF (Microsoft Solution Framework) and Prince2 project management methodologies.

By combining these 2 experienced methodologies Eon has been able to construct a complex yet efficient means of managing projects that satisfy its major clients whilst maintaining a viable methodology that does not overburden the development process with excessive intrusion from management issues. The methodology outlined below provides the basis of the operational model that we employ. For the type of project in operation we adapt this base methodology to meet the requirements of the project in question. To view these adapations:

The primary methodology operates on a series of iterative processes to develop components/modules that integrate seamlessly into the final product. The use of an iterative process incorporates strategic milestones that form the basis of the project lifecycle including review and risk analysis.

Each version of a project is handled exactly the same going through all stages of the project and development lifecycle.

Projects, versions and SIR (System Improvement Requests) are maintained by an auditable document trail that includes financial analysis, risk analysis and signoff at each stage.

In this way both Eon and its clients can be assured that the work being conducted is maintained through a concise set of rules and guidelines.

Eon utilises a defined set of document templates that setout the requirements and outcomes of each stage of the project lifecycle.

The project lifecycle adopted by Eon provides for a cyclic approach to a project where the completion of a project, version or module is such that any future work on the component after release is started as a new envisioning stage.

As outlined in the diagram below, the key outputs from each stage of the project culminate in a set of comparable documents that cover the following areas:

  • Risk Analysis
    • Current Stage – the milestone identifies any outcomes from risk analysis identified during the stage and how these risks where handled.
    • Next Stage – identifies any risks that may be a result of the current stage and how these risks translate into a. the next sage and b. the overall project.
    • Overall project risk – tracks and manages the risks identified for the project and manages how each stage will minimize or eliminate the risks identified.

  • Cost benefit analysis looks at the current project costs and funding, the impact of risk on the financial aspects of the project and the impact on agreed SIR throughout the stage and project as a whole.
  • Resource and HR management – investigates areas such as resource allocation to the project, project teams and development. This investigation identifies the impact of resources, sick leave, annual leave and other resource allocation on the project and each stage of the project.
  • Project Management Meetings – covers all issues and queries identified at all project, team and resource meetings for the stage and ensures that all questions, queries and correspondence has been handled appropriately.
  • Stage Signoff – once agreement has been reached on all the identified aspects of the stage and a working solution for risk issues, stage transition and SIR has been reached the stage is signed off by both parties as complete.

By adopting this model it enables Eon Management Services to quickly and efficiently adapt to changes within the project or requirements, answer questions and report on project delivery and promote the project as a cohesive product through effective documentation. This model enables Eon to:

  • Create a multiple version release plan.
  • Work through iterations rapidly involve the client and client resources in all stages of the project.
  • Deliver the core functionality first.
  • Cohesively tie all aspects of the project together with minimal interruption to the flow of the project.
  • Utilise the requirements specifications developed during the design phase, SIR, design/construction changes and other project documents to assist in the building of the specifications, business system, reports and other government requiremets and manuals.
